ResearchRecent research by the Department of Health in Northern Ireland over a 6 month period has shown there is a wide range of benefits provided by homeopathy, and could even save the health system money.

Antibiotics
"Early life exposure to antibiotics is related to an increased risk of both eczema and hay fever later in life."
Research was presented in September, 2016, at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) International Congress in London. The study concluded that there was an increased risk of developing allergies later in life when exposed to antibiotics early in life.
The authors suggest the mechanism behind this effect is the immunomodulatory effect of antibiotics, and the disruption of the microorganisms (microbiome) in the gut caused by antibiotics which can lead to reduce immune responses.
In 22 studies analysed, the increased risk of eczema due to early life use of antibiotics varied from 15% to 41% depending on the type of study analysed. Use of antibiotics in early life also increased the risk of hay fever in later life by 14% to 56% again dependent on the type of study analysed. Furthermore, the association was stronger if patients had been treated with 2 courses of antibiotics compared with one course of antibiotics, both for eczema and for hay fever. Read more .........
New research from the University of South Carolina suggests that Antibiotic treatment within the first year of life may wipe out more than the infection, and exposure to these drugs is now being associated with an increase in food allergies. Read more......

Ear Infections
An Indian trial involving 81 children with ear infections (acute otitis media) showed that homeopathic treatment was as effective as conventional treatment. The conventional treatment comprised of namely antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, antipyretics and analgesic drugs taken as needed. The homeopathic treatment was individualised and the entire homeopathic group did not need to use antibiotics. Read more........
Upper respiratory tract Infections
In this study of 1577 patients, it was found that homeopathic treatment was not inferior to conventional treatment for acute upper respiratory and ear complaints. This research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of homeopathy compared to conventional treatment in acute respiratory and ear complaints. The patients received either homeopathic or conventional treatment in a total of 57 primary care practices in 8 countries (Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Ukraine, United Kingdom and USA).

Chronic Disease
A recent study demonstrated that homeopathic intervention offered positive health changes to a substantial proportion of a large cohort of patients with a wide range of chronic diseases. This evaluation by the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital, looked at the recorded outcome of homeopathic treatment of 6,500 patients over a six year period. 70% of patients reported improvement in their health with the best results seen in children with eczema and asthma. In adults the best results were with inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel disease, menopausal problems and migraine. Other conditiions improved with homeopathy included arthritis, depression and chronic fatigue. Read more........
The Royal London Homeopathic Hospital conducted a 500 patient survey which showed that many patients were able to reduce or stop conventional medication following their homeopathic treatment. This study also showed that many patients sought homeopathy because of their concerns about the safety of conventional treatment. Read more........

Depression
A recent trial assessed the efficacy of individualised homeopathic treatment and Fluoxetine (a.k.a Prozac), for moderate to severe depression in menopausal women. Read more..............
Both treatments were found to be safe and to have a significant effect, different from placebo. Homeopathy caused greater clinical improvement in symptoms of depression than fluoxetine and also improved the patients’ menopausal symptoms, whereas fluoxetine did not.
Recent analysis of data previously submitted to the FDA has found that SSRI antidepressants perform no better than placebo for mild to moderate depression, but they do have a greater effect than placebo in severely depressed patients. Read more.......
